Coaching vs. Teaching

Coaching is a form of development in which an experienced person, called a coach, supports a learner in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance.

Coaching is developing potential skills and abilities, while some new information may be thrown in in the process. This is like going to a gym: Trainers will not teach you how to walk, bend, or stretch, but they will train you to do it better so as to take full advantage of what you already know.

Teaching is the process of attending to people’s needs, experiences and feelings, and intervening so that they learn particular things, and go beyond the given.

In other words, teaching addresses presenting new information and fosters critical thinking. Processes, skills, and abilities such as reading or listening comprehension are addressed, as well as vocabulary development and grammatical precision.

This project is centered on coaching, not teaching. However, your overall language will improve by being able to speak clearly despite grammatical shortcomings. Other than clear accent, another way of making speech clear is by paraphrasing - saying the same in different words. However, paraphrasing falls within the teaching domain, so it will merely be exploited, not taught.

When you begin feeling confident people understand your speech, you will discover that often people ask for clarification, not because of your accent, but because they want to know what you mean - they will need explanation of the concept, but your accent is clear.

In a nutshell, your level of English will remain unchanged. Your speaking clarity, on the other hand, will dramatically improve. What you need is to put substantial effort and constancy, and the results will stunt you, and those whom you routinely talk to.
