The various vowel sounds in English |
English has twenty vowel sounds represented by the letters a, e, i, o, and u. The letters y and w are also commonly used in vowel sound spellings. Other combinations of letters also have vowel sounds like though and caught. When two vowel sounds come back to back, they are termed diphthongs.
